This is Who!

I have been buying some new magazines and books and there have been so many patterns that I want to make – mostly sweaters.  So I have been taking advantage of the sales at Michael’s and Joann’s for the most part.  I still can’t fork over $80 for yarn for one item as I wouldn’t pay that much for the sweater already knitted up in a store. 

As usual, I have more projects and yarn than time but I am happily knitting away these days!

NOT! 

I have been walking and doing a Walk Away the Pounds video regularly since the middle of May and I have to say, along with 1,200-1,400 calories a day, I have lost 25 pounds.  BUT – the thought of that word exercise is still not one I enjoy. 

I have the “I’d rather be” syndrome – I’d rather be sleeping, I’d rather be knitting, I’d rather be doing – uh- about anything else!  So Kiley – I guess it runs in the family!

 I heard Oprah once said – just put your tennis shoes on – that’s the first step.  After I have put on my tennis shoes and walked up the hill and let out a big puff of air – it is OK.  I like looking at all of the neighbor’s flowers and landscaping.  I now know what dogs are going to come to fences and greet or bark at me.  Weather has been unbelievably cool which has made getting outside so much easier.  I’m thinking of checking out some gyms so I can swim.  My right knee sometimes aches if I walk too much and my right foot that was broken almost 3 years ago lets me know it too.

Weight Watchers likes to say be active instead of that E word – maybe I should think of it that way!

Instead of the goofy hat, I made Lucky a more practical neck\ear warmer.

Admission was $10 and I paid for all 3 of us.  When Dad asked why I was paying I told him I was the only one who had a job.  He let me – ha!

The very first food vendor we see is for Corn Dogs!  When I was a kid, Patty and I must have eaten at least 10 of these in a day.  I told myself I was going to have one later.

We had a good time seeing native Iowa fish, going through buildings with vedors and products made from IA.  I picked up some dry spices for dips – but I might try them in other more fat free ways.

Now I had motivation to lose weight before I went to the fair – let’s just say that motivation was extremely engrained into me after seeing all of the overweight people.  It was weird to see a person who was thin – very sad indeed!  Everywhere you looked you saw very obese people, big rolls of fat, big t-shirts trying to cover fat, pudgy cheeks and fat legs – it was disguisting.  One lady was in a wheel chair (stuffed in a wheelchair) and she was reaching for Amish Cinnamon Rolls – I had a notion to say “You really don’t need those!” but I didn’t.

It was quite crowded and in the cultural arts building I had to find an exit – it was bumper to bumper people.  The quilts and kintted, crocheted and tatted items were upstairs in one of the buildings.  I would have missed it except we went down a hall to “free samples” of food.  They had lots of pretty quilts and things and I was glad to see them.

There was nothing healthy to eat.  We found a sit down place vs. a vedor.  Dad and I had pork tenderloin sandwiches ($6) and LaVonne had a hambers ($4).  Food was expensive – I can’t image taking a family.  On our way out I did eat my $4 corn dog and LaVonne had her $4 funnel cake.  There was a vendor named Vege Table and I was thinking that was where I would get my lunch – it said mushrooms, green beans, zuchinni and onion rings.  After I stood in line I learned it was all FRIED.  I would think that would have been worse than other choices so I opted out of line.  There were lines everywhere!

One thing that was funny was this one man band.  He had an electric guitar, harmonica and many drums strapped to his back that he operated by lifting his heels that had straps to the drums and cymbols.  Pretty good coordiation to operated all of that plus sing!

We watched the Rhinestone Cowboy do some rope tricks and he had kids from the audience join in.  He also had 2 horses that laid down and he stood on them doing rope tricks, they got up and nudged him in the butt, stole his hat – pretty cute show. 

I got home around 8 – Karisa had let the dogs out – THANK YOU!

So today when I got up I made sure I walked!  And there will be no food on my plate for many days that don’t belong there – like corn dogs and pork tenderloins!
